Stephen W. Brown, a native of Macon, GA, is an associate of the firm, and works primarily in civil litigation, including commercial disputes, admiralty, and professional malpractice.  Mr. Brown is a 2011 graduate of the Cornell Law School, where he served as managing editor of the Cornell Journal of Law and Public Policy, earned a concentration in business law and regulation, and received a CALI Award for Excellence in Cornell’s Land Use and Natural Resources Clinic for his project on the border dispute between Georgia’s Bibb and Monroe Counties.  During his law school summers, he clerked for O’Neal Brown & Gautreaux, P.C., where he assisted with personal injury cases, and Constangy Brooks & Smith, L.L.P, where he worked on labor and employment issues.

Prior to attending law school, Mr. Brown attended the University of Cincinnati.  He received his Bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, and Master’s degree in piano performance from the University’s College-Conservatory of Music.  He won first prize in the conservatory’s undergraduate piano competition during his freshman year, and later served as a teaching assistant in music theory, and as an instructor in the conservatory preparatory department.  Simultaneously, he earned a Master of Arts in Philosophy from the University’s McMicken College of Arts and Sciences, where he focused on mathematical logic and philosophy of language.  His thesis, The Reasonable Score, proposed an approach to forming truth tables for statements made in conversations where the participants unknowingly assign different meanings to context-sensitive terms.

Just before joining the firm, Mr. Brown married Hannah de Kleer Brown, who he met at Cornell University.
