Dennis Keene Presents To Georgia Legislature
ATLANTA, GA–-On Tuesday, February 11th, Bouhan Falligant partner Dennis Keene, presented to the Georgia House of Representatives Transportation Committee in support of Senate Bill 68.
“In many regards, the current tort system is stacked against businesses in Georgia,” said Dennis Keene, “to help keep Georgia as a business-friendly state, which keeps jobs in the state, we must correct these deficiencies while ensuring individuals are justly compensated for personal injuries.”
S.B. 68, which passed the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, aims to alter Georgia’s rules on lawsuit damage caps. The bill would limit pain and suffering testimony and enable trials to be more easily bifurcated. The bill was brought before the Transportation Committee mainly because it relates to trucking companies’ insurance. S.B. 68 is part of the Georgia GOP’s tort reform goals for the 2025 legislative session, which Governor Kemp named one of his top priorities this year.
“In my view, it’s not a red or a blue issue,” Keene said during his testimony. “I consider it to be a Georgians’ issue that we are all faced with, and we all deserve a fair answer.”
Dennis Keene has been with Bouhan Falligant since 2014. He represents corporations and individuals in tort-based litigation, specializing in product liability and trucking law. He formerly served in the US Army from 1993 to 1999, where he gained extensive trial experience as a judge advocate. He received his B.A. in Economics from Syracuse University and his J.D. from the University of Miami.
