Ben Karpf Announces Run for Chatham County Superior Court Judge

Local attorney Benjamin Karpf today announced he will run for Judge of Chatham County Superior Court in 2018. Karpf, a Savannah native, is a partner with Bouhan Falligant LLP. He will seek to fill the position that will be vacated by his father, current Superior Court Judge Michael Karpf. Judge Michael Karpf recently announced his plan to retire at the end of his current term of office, capping a 40-year career on the local bench.

“My family has a long-standing tradition of public service,” said Karpf. “My grandparents served the nation during World War II and served the City of Savannah in numerous ways. My mother’s years of service on the Savannah Chatham County School Board taught me what it means to truly serve a community. My father’s nearly 40 years on the bench have given me an enduring example of the integrity, fairness, thoughtfulness and moderation that the public should demand from a judge. I hope to continue my family’s legacy of just and honorable service to the citizens of Chatham County.”

Karpf joined Bouhan Falligant in 2011. He has served as a part-time Judge in Chatham County Magistrate Court since 2013. Karpf currently serves on the Board of Governors of the Savannah Jewish Federation and on the Board of Directors of The Creative Coast. He has served as an attorney-coach for the Georgia High School Mock Trial Program for several years. Prior to returning home to Savannah, Karpf practiced law in Washington, DC. He attended law school at Georgetown University, where he graduated with honors.

A Savannah native, Karpf graduated from Savannah Country Day School and attended college, graduate school, and law school in Washington, D.C. Karpf received a B.A. in English from The George Washington University as well as M.A. and J.D. degrees from Georgetown University. During law school, Karpf served as an annual survey editor for the American Criminal Law Review.
