Bouhan Falligant Attorney Works with American Diabetes Association for Future Advancements
When Maggie Puccini, a lawyer with Bouhan Falligant and mother of two, tested her youngest daughter Anna’s blood sugar for the first time, the number was so high the home glucose tester did not even display a number. It only read high.
Maggie and her husband, Rob, tested their daughter’s blood sugar because of the Type 1 diabetes symptoms she was exhibiting: extreme irritability and unquenchable thirst.
Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults and occurs when the body does not produce insulin, according to the American Diabetes Association. Insulin is needed to convert sugar, starches and other foods into energy. Without insulin the glucose remains in the blood stream, raises blood glucose levels and can cause severe complications such as blindness, damage to the gastrointestinal tract, kidney damage and heart disease.
After testing Anna’s blood sugar they immediately took her to the hospital to seek medical help.
